House-builder Tawd Valley Developments (TVD) has handed over the latest of its rolling programme of housing developments to its owner, West Lancashire Borough Council.

All fourteen homes at Fairstead in Birch Green, Skelmersdale have been completed, and handed over to West Lancs Council and new residents. The development forms part of a programme to deliver more than eighty new council homes to the local authority over the next eight months.

The energy-efficient homes, a mix of six semi-detached properties and eight apartments built from timber frame, will benefit from dual zone heating, double-glazing and electric car charge points, as well as light and spacious accommodation.

To mark the final handover TVD met on site with contractor Whitfield & Brown’s trainee Dale and apprentice Josh who have been involved in this and other TVD schemes.

“Our brief is to deliver good quality homes for the people of Skelmersdale and this latest completion shows what can be achieved with a supportive owner and a skilled local supply chain and workforce,” said TVD managing director Mark Kitts.

“Each of our developments is designed to help enhance the local communities and environments in which they sit and these latest homes at Fairstead do just that. It’s also important to emphasise the employment opportunities that arise from our developments and it was great to meet Josh and Dale, both cracking lads and well on their journey of a long career in construction.”

Councillor Jenny Wilkie, portfolio holder for Housing and Landlord Services, welcomed delivery of the new homes: “Once again Tawd Valley Developments have delivered on their promise to build fantastic council homes for the tenants of West Lancashire.

“Providing employment and growth opportunities for local people and businesses was a key part of our decision to build our own Council homes, so to see local young people gaining valuable experience that will set them on the road to successful careers is especially gratifying.”

The handover follows the recent successful completion of thirteen new homes at Eskbank, with developments at Brierfield (17 homes), Westhead (10) and Northfield (27) due to be finished in 2022.

The Council was recently successful in its bid to Homes England, the government’s housing accelerator, for just over a million pounds to support the delivery of council housing in the borough by Tawd Valley Developments. TVD and the Council, with the support of Whitfield and Brown and other scheme partners also arranged a meet the buyer event in the summer of 2021 to engage with the supply chain and local young people seeking opportunities in the construction sector.
