It was good news week for Skelmersdale United as the government has lifted the ban on football supporters attending games, with United set to host Widnes in front of the United faithful on Saturday 29th August at the JMO, kick off 3pm.

There was more good news as the FA Cup draw had been kind to the club as they will face the long road to Wembley when they come up against Penistone Church of the North East Counties League, they will be well known to United as they met last season, United running out 5-2 winners in South Yorkshire. The game kicks off at 8pm at the JMO on Tuesday 1st September.

This season marks the 50th anniversary of the clubs finest hour, back in 1971 United triumphed 4-1 over Dagenham at Wembley Stadium to bring home the Amateur Cup, to mark the occasion United will be releasing a commemorative polo shirt, priced at £20 you can order yours by calling Kath Fenney on 07949 582262.

There will also be a function at the end of the season to mark the occasion, with players from the Victorious team in attendance.

The North West Counties League will provisionally begin on 3rd October, with the club looking for sponsors to help boost their cause.

Club Chairman Paul Griffiths said “We know it’s been a difficult time for everyone of late and we have taken this into consideration as we launch our Sponsorship brochure. You can sponsor a Player for just £20 or have a business card sized advert appearing in all issues of the Match Day magazine for just £30. We can also offer sponsorship packages to suit your needs.

“The club after a few difficult years are seeing the lights of day as we moved back into town at the JMO Sports Park, to put us well and truly back on the football map we need the support from the local community. We are pleased to have on board for this season Team Drainage as the Main Shirt sponsors, along with The Safety Team, SkemNews, AG Auto’s, Karl Welsh Plumbing and Heating and Skelmersdale Carpet and Flooring.
