LGA responds to Health Foundation report on young people’s future health

Responding to the Health Foundation’s report on young people’s future health, ‘A healthy foundation for the future’, Chairman of the Local Government Association’s Community Wellbeing Board, Cllr Ian Hudspeth, said:

“Young people in our communities face a range of significant challenges which this report highlights, including poverty, access to good housing, learning new skills and finding work.

“Councils have a central role to play in helping to tackle these social determinants of health and supporting our younger generation to live the lives they want to lead.

“We support the call for a joined-up, whole government approach which addresses the fragmented funding streams and helps councils to create communities in which young people thrive.

“It is also important that services supporting young people, children and families are fully funded. Every pound invested by government in early intervention or other local council-run services, can relieve significant pressures on children’s services and other essential parts of the public sector like the NHS and police.”
