Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust’s Three Wishes Heart and Lung Fund has received a generous boost, after the family of former patient Terry Flynn presented a cheque for £1,200 in his memory.
Terry spent time on both the Coronary Care Unit and Intensive Care Unit in February 2019, and his wife Ann, praised staff for the excellent care that he received.
Ann said; “I cannot thank the staff on CCU and ICU enough for the care they gave to Terry.
“I truly believe that because he was looked after so well, they gave us an extra couple of months to spend with him.
“If the care hadn’t been so good, I don’t believe that he would have come home. Terry passed away in May, but the extra time we were given allowed us to celebrate his 62nd birthday with him.”
Ann added; “I, along with our daughters Mellony, Amy and Holly, would like to thank everyone who donated money in lieu of sending flowers. Terry has left a massive void in the lives of his family and friends and he is missed every day.
“We hope the money will be used to benefit patients for many years to come.”
Carolyn Dereszkiewicz, Head of Nursing for Scheduled Care, said; “We are very grateful to Ann, her daughters Mellony, Amy and Holly and all of their friends and family for their generous donation.
“I would like to pass on my condolences and also my gratitude for thinking of our patients at what must be a very sad time for their family.
“This money has been very gratefully received by the Heart and Lung Fund and will be used to fund new equipment for the Coronary Care Unit which will benefit many of our patients.”
Janet Pennington, Fundraising Manager for WWL’s Three Wishes Charity said; “In their time of great sadness, Terry’s family and friends thought of those patients and families who may receive treatment at our hospital.
“We are so appreciative for their kindness and for their donation to the Three Wishes Heart and Lung Fund. It will make a huge difference to so many people.”
