West Lancashire Borough Council is delighted to announce the appointment of Mark Kitts as Managing Director of Tawd Valley Developments.

Mark is a field-leader in the housing and regeneration sector and joins the company from Liverpool City Council where he was Assistant Director for Regeneration.

During his 19-year career in Liverpool, Mark has been a key player in the city’s regeneration journey, responsible for teams involved in the delivery of many of Liverpool’s highest profile and transformational projects including the King’s Dock Arena, The Anfield Project, the Lime Street and the Knowledge Quarter Gateway, and Cruise Liner Terminal.

More recently, Mark established the Council’s Strategic Housing Delivery Team following his role as Chief Executive of Foundations (Liverpool City Council’s own housing company) to develop and progress plans for new homes across the city, creating new sites for high quality housing developments and transforming existing communities.

Danielle Ashworth also joins Tawd Valley Developments as Head of Development from her previous post as Head of Development at First Choice Homes. Danielle has worked in the housing/construction sector for over 15 years, mainly within housing associations to deliver affordable rent, rent to buy, supported accommodation and shared ownership homes.

Councillor Ian Moran, Leader of West Lancashire Borough Council, said: “We’re extremely proud to be one of only a handful of local authorities building their own council houses. Being able to attract experts in their field like Mark and Danielle shows the level of ambition we have for Tawd Valley Developments and our borough.

“We’re delighted to welcome them on board for what we know will be a period of real, positive progress for West Lancs.”

Mark Kitts added: “After 19 happy and successful years at Liverpool I am delighted and privileged to be taking up this new challenge in West Lancashire. I hope that my knowledge and experience will support West Lancashire and Tawd Valley in the delivery of its housing development and regeneration priorities whilst making a profit for the Council to reinvest in much needed services.

“It’s a really exciting time for Tawd Valley Development Company with Danielle and I joining the Company’s Head of Finance Ross Litherland. I know that together, and with the support of the Board and the Council, we will play a major role in its successes.”

Tawd Valley Developments is a company formed by West Lancashire Borough Council to build houses to be retained as Council owned homes and for market sale, the company will also help West Lancashire Borough Council carry out other projects. The Council is the only shareholder and any financial surplus made by Tawd Valley Developments will be returned to the authority to be reinvested in the local community.

The Council has recently been successful in its bid for just over £1 million in funding to support the development of Council housing in the Borough. The bid was made to Homes England, the Government’s housing accelerator, and will support the development of 30 Council homes across two sites in Skelmersdale through Tawd Valley Developments. When completed, the new homes will be available for rent and will be owned and managed by the Council.
