Young and old rail enthusiasts will delight in new Lancashire railway exhibition

Clitheroe Castle Museum

Families and rail enthusiasts alike can rejoice as a railway exhibition will allow them to explore the tracks that put Lancashire on the map.

Steward’s Gallery at Clitheroe Castle Museum will present On Track – A Glimpse into Lancashire’s Railways Past and Present until the end of June.

See toys, artefacts and photographs from Lancashire Museums and privately owned railway memorabilia from local railway historian Brian Haworth’s personal collection.

Explore the joys of railways past and present in this new exhibition curated in partnership with Community Rail Lancashire. Discover more about Lancashire’s railways and East Lancashire’s community stations and learn about our county’s lost and lasting lines and how to start researching your railway ancestors.

County Councillor Peter Buckley, cabinet member for cultural services at Lancashire County Council, said: “Our railways are the foundation of our county. Our communities and economy were built on them, and they connect people to this day.

“We encourage people to visit this brilliant exhibition to learn something new and we look forward to seeing you soon.”

There are film clips about exploring Lancashire by rail and our young rail enthusiasts can also get comfy and watch a film about Brian the Bull’s adventures travelling along the Ribble Valley Line.

Clitheroe Castle Museum, which is just a short walk from Clitheroe Station, will also be hosting a packed programme of railway-related activities between 11am and 3pm on Wednesday, February 15.

Entry to the Steward’s Gallery is free and the exhibition will run until 30 June 2023.
