- Special flag raising ceremony to be held for Armed Forces Day
- Mayor of West Lancashire and Deputy Lord Lieutenant will pay tribute to the fallen and those who continue to protect us
- Veterans, local cadets and members of the public invited
As we approach Armed Forces Day, West Lancashire is set to take part in the national Fly the Flag campaign to replicate the flag raising ceremonies in London. The flag will be flown across the Borough from Monday 19 June until the actual day itself, to support and recognise the contribution that the Armed Forces community makes to the United Kingdom.
This year, the ceremony will be held at the Memorial in Coronation Park, Ormskirk at 5pm on Monday 19 June 2023. Everyone from across the Borough is invited to attend from 4:45pm to pay their respects and see the Ministry of Defence flag raised.
The Mayor of West Lancashire, Councillor Maureen Nixon and Consort Mr Laughton Wilkinson will be joined by Deputy Lord Lieutenant, Martin Ainscough. Armed Forces Champions for West Lancashire Borough Council, Veterans, cadets, Council officials and invited guests will also be in attendance to present the flag to the Mayor.
The Mayor, Councillor Maureen Nixon, said: “I am incredibly honoured to be part of such a special day. On behalf of West Lancashire, we will continue to honour the sacrifices made by our military services, demonstrate our gratitude, and give our thanks to those who have fallen, and those who continue to fight and serve today.”
