In a game that had it all, eight goals, two pens, a sending off and three goals in 3 minutes saw Skem United return from Ramsbottom with all 3 points.

It was a case of swapping roles for the two managers Richard Brodie once on the books of Rammy and Lee Donafee in the dugout for the home side had previously worked with Paul McNally at Skem a few years ago.

It didn’t go well at the start for United as Jack Hont was adjudged to have brought down the Rammy forward inside the box, the referee having no hesitation to point to the spot, Ben Halfacre smashing the ball home to give the hosts the lead after just 3 minutes, within 30 seconds United had a good penalty appeal turned down, a run from Elliott Morris saw him upended but the ref said no, Morris composed himself as the ball came back into the box from Sam Turners cross and the youngster coolly finished to draw the sides level.

United again found themselves in arrears as a long range shot on 13 minutes from Jamie Rother took a nasty bounce to wrong foot Barnes and Rammy were back in front.

It was Morris again who drew the sides level just after the half hour, scrambling home at the 3rd attempt much to the delight of the United fans who had made the journey to the picturesque town.

The rains came down and made the already heavy pitch even more of a test and the opening minutes of the second half were devoid of any meaningful action but the game spang into life with a crazy 3 goals in 3 minutes, on 56 minutes Ramsbottom went back in front with a disputed second penalty of the afternoon, Halfacre stepped up again to crash home.

United hit back again within a minute with Sam Turner getting to debutant Taylor Prescott cross first to fire home to draw the sides level.

United took the lead straight from the kick off, the industrious Karl Clair dispossessing former United player Tony Donaldson in midfield to send the ball forward, McCarthy with plenty of work to do, held of his markers and smashed home from the edge of the box, to claim his 3rd goal in 3 matches.

Ramsbottom were reduced to 10 men on 70 minutes when Ryan Jennings crudely brought down Elliott Morris but so often is the case the 10 men upped their game and Ben Barnes was forced to make a number of saves to keep United in front.

Nerves were settled with 5 minutes remaining, Clair again the architect setting up veteran striker Emini Adegbenro who showed his class, his run and shot left the keeper helpless and gave manager Richard Brodie his first win as boss.

United line up: Barnes, Lees, Hont, Herbert, Devine, McLoughlin, Morris, Clair, McCarthy, Prescott, Turner. Subs: Sheen, Gerrard, Adegbenro
