Ahead of Saturday’s encounter with Macclesfield, Skelmersdale United have signed Michael Simpson from Rylands FC.

Manager Paul McNally has said of his capture, “Simmo will add more experience and depth to our squad, he is a top player at our level and a player we have had on the radar for some time, so we are delighted to get him in our set up”.

Simmo is no stranger to “Blues” fans, a one-time Academy player at Football League club Bury. Simmo played in the Northern Premier League with United for two years, making his debut at Bamber Bridge in August 2011, going on to make 28 appearances, scoring the one goal against Trafford in September 2014, before joining Runcorn Linnets. He moved back to Skem in August 2014 but stayed for just one season.

He is however most remembered at Runcorn Linnets, where he made over 200 appearances, with 23 goals under his belt, many from his trademark long range efforts and was a member of the Linnets NWCounties Cup winning side in 2013, before joining Rylands at the start of the 2020-21 season.
