Skelmersdale United 4-0 Squires Gate
Skelmersdale United put in another breathtaking performance on Tuesday night at the JMO Sports Park, the visitors Squires Gate have been going great guns are the only North West Counties side still in the FA Cup.
In a frantic opening first twenty minutes United produced the better chances, Adegbenro going closest. With the visitors Iley & Feeley threatening Ben Barnes in the United goal.
United won a free kick on the edge of the box after a crude tackle on Abdul Djalo, Strickland’s free kick clipped the defenders and went just wide of the target, from the resulting corner in nipped Saturdays 3 goal hero Mikey Howard to put United 1-0 up. Tom Croughan on his 50th appearance, doubled United’s advantage 5 minutes later as a shot from the edge of the area nestled in the corner of the goal.
At 2 down and approaching half time there was some unsavoury challenges from the Gate, all going unpunished, whilst Mikey Howard found himself a yellow for a somewhat innocuous challenge.
Adbul Djalo found himself on a yellow at the start of the second period, considering the stick he had been given it seemed a bit harsh, yet fouls on Howard & Adegbenro went unpunished.
Howard who was in the thick of the action all night produced a lovely raking ball that found Morris who slotted home for United’s 3rd and to cap of a fine evening grabbed himself his second goal of the night on 61 minutes and it was game over for Squires Gate.
It was also the end of the evening for Adbul Djalo who saw red on 70 minutes, although no one is sure exactly why.
United saw out the remainder of the game with little fuss, Alex Griffiths on his 100th appearance for the club marshalling the defence superbly. Paul McNally said “it was a bruising encounter, the result was the right one, we worked hard against some severe provocation”.
United now have two home games this coming week, Wythenshawe are the visitors to the JMO on Saturday 18th September 3pm kick off and AFC Liverpool will be in Town on Tuesday 21st, this game kicks off at 8pm.
