Councillor Gordon Johnson, the Mayor of West Lancashire, wishes everyone in West Lancashire a joyful festive season:

“I feel very privileged to represent the Borough as Mayor and very grateful to the people of West Lancashire for the warm and friendly welcome I have received.

“My office has allowed me to witness first-hand the incredible work people are doing day-in, day-out to support our communities, and this has never been more important than with the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak. Visiting volunteers and NHS staff rolling out the life-saving vaccine programme in Banks and Skelmersdale was a privilege and I look forward to spending some time with our NHS volunteers at Ormskirk Hospital this week. I sincerely thank everyone who has been involved in the pandemic response across the Borough.

“I would also like to recognise the outstanding work of one of my chosen Mayoral charities, the Birchwood Centre in Skelmersdale. They have worked tirelessly to prevent homelessness and social isolation throughout the pandemic and have been a beacon of hope for many people in these dark times.

“Hope and joy are incredibly important right now and I have been delighted to see the work of groups such as the Divine Days Dance Company who endeavour to make the Arts accessible to all and who were recently given the Small Social Enterprise of the Year award by the Social Enterprise Lancashire Network. The Duke of Edinburgh Amplify Youth Group from Ormskirk are also worthy of special mention for their work with young people and I was delighted to attend their awards evening recently.

“I would also like to express my sincere pride at having represented the office of Mayor at the Remembrance Sunday commemorations. The sacrifices made to make sure our freedoms were preserved can only be imagined and the debt we owe to those who have fallen on our behalf cannot be measured.

“I wish everyone a happy and healthy Christmas and look forward to meeting many more of you as part of my civic duties in the New Year.”
