Clay Brow Girls were formed in 2022 with Clay Brow being the first club in Skelmersdale to establish a girls only team. All the girls have a strong passion for football but had struggled to find girls teams to play for as they are few and far between. Defender Matilda’s mum Clare expressed, ‘I am so glad my daughter joined Clay Brow girls, she has grown in confidence as well as her understanding of the ‘beautiful game’. The team is built on friendship, fitness, goals and celebrations - the coaches are amazing and everyone is treated equally regardless of ability. I am one happy parent, the transformation of my daughter has been amazing.’

Initially, the club had a large group of girls come together but in August were split into 2 teams and now have an older team and a younger team. Clay Brow Girls caught the eye of local entrepreneur, Grace Vella, and she agreed to provide Miss Kick kits for all the girls.

The girls recently took part in a tournament in Liverpool and out of 20 teams they came runners up. The final actually went to penalties! An amazing achievement given the fact that they had only been playing together a matter of months and against some superb well established teams with years of experience.

The girls have all become great friends and a highlight for the girls was being mascots for Everton women during the recent Derby. Winger Niamh’s mum Kelly, who organised the entire day for the girls, shared her delight, ‘We were made up when the girls were asked by Everton Women to be their mascots for their game against Liverpool Women at Anfield. All the girls were so excited at this amazing opportunity to walk out on the pitch at Anfield with the players live on Sky Sports. The girls loved every minute of it, both Everton and Liverpool were amazing with them. Amazing memories for both the girls and the parents. All our family and friends were watching at home on Sky Sports. Our team are all really good friends and as well as learning they have a lot of fun; they all love being around each other and are always laughing and just enjoying themselves.’

The girls were all provided with Everton kits and wore Miss Kick headbands and as you can see from the pictures look superb. They had the most amazing evening at Anfield, meeting players and spending time in the lounge before the game. The girls were certainly lucky mascots for Everton with them winning 3-0.

Jay Howarth, Clay Brow Chairman, shared his passion for his girls team, ‘Yesterday was a proud day for our club, as 11 of our girls headed out as mascots for Everton women at Anfield against Liverpool women.

‘We decided to setup our girls section in November 2021, with our first established side starting in February 2022 which has gone from strength to strength.

‘To see so many girls coming into our club & enjoying their football is great to see.

‘We would like to thank all our coaches for the hard work they put it to make this a fun, enjoyable environment for the girls, as well as Kelly Corner for the hard work she put in behind the scenes to make yesterday such a brilliant day for the girls.’
