Skelmersdale United 0-1 Witton Albion
Skelmersdale United again fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat this time at the hands of Witton Albion, after last week’s heroics Richard Brodie would have been confident of his sides ability to see of a team 4 places below them in the NPL West table.
The first 30 minutes failed to ignite the supporters, there was good passing play from both sides but nothing to liven up a cold gloomy afternoon.
The game sprung to life on 35 minutes, United broke down the right with Sam Turner creating an opening for Karl Clair, his shot was well saved by the visitors keeper Martin from the cleared ball, Witton moved men forward in numbers, Mike Koral doing well to evade the United defence before setting up Cameron Fogerty who finished well despite pressure from the United.
5 minutes later the game effective changed, Turner again providing the cross that resulted in Elliott Morris unceremoniously bundled over in the box, the referee Mr Robinson was having none of it despite not consulting his linesman or the protests of the United players. As the players left the field at half time it was the man in black who bore the brunt of the supporters’ anger.
The second period again was full of some neat passages of play from both sides but with the defence on top there was very little in the way of goal mouth action, the referee again came under the spotlight with 5 minutes left on the clock as Connor Hughes was adjudged to have been impeded by Skem’s Harry Hagen, it was debatable at least but the ref pointed to the spot immediately.
Elliott Rokka stepped up with the utmost confidence but Sam Ashton diving to his right managed to palm the ball away, with justice seen to have been done.
Elliott Morris had a brief sniff of an equaliser, meeting a Tom Freeman cross, his acrobatic overhead kick wasnt quite met right and the ball went safely out.
