Big games coming up

Skelmersdale United are without a game this coming Saturday 11th March, but there is plenty to look forward to in the coming weeks as United travel to Mossley on 18th March before welcoming league leaders Macclesfield to the Burscough Community Stadium on the 25th.

Richard Brodie is looking forward to the games “It’s disappointing to be without a game this coming weekend, we have built up a bit of a head of steam in the last few weeks having won our last 4 and every player worth his salt wants to be playing week in week out but it’s a double edged sword as the forecast this weekend is not a good one, I’m sure there will be games called off, at least we can go into the weekend knowing we have not got to wait for that telephone call at 1pm saying “it’s off”.

“We can look towards training next week in the build up to the Mossley game, they are flying high at the moment just outside the play-off spots, so it will be a real test for the squad, it’s never the easiest places to go to but our away record has been excellent of late, we have won 5 out of the last 6 on our travels, so Mossley won’t be getting it all their own way”.

We then welcome League leaders Macc, Brodie went on “look they are the league leaders and by some distance, we are under no illusions what they will be offering, they have the budget most teams at this level can only dream of, we gave them a good run for the money at their place earlier in the season, that was when we still re building, we now have a settled side and we are playing some good football, we can also grind out results making us difficult to beat, we will give both games a good account of ourselves and will be looking to pick up points”.

With United in 9th spot in the Pitching-In NPL West Division, having accumulated 42 points, Richard Brodie continued “A few weeks ago we were looking to get to the 40 point mark to save of the threat of relegation but it’s so congested in the middle of the table, our recent form has pushed us 6 points of a Play-off place, we will obviously have to put in a fantastic amount of effort to make the Top 6, apart from the two games coming up we still have to travel to Witton Albion who are up there and Leek who sit in second and for my money are the best team we have faced all season. There are also games against Hanley Town & Widnes who are scrapping it out at the wrong end of the table, it will be a very interesting run in at both ends of the table.

“The supporters can play a big part in where we finish, the support at Burscough has been good but if you can bring a friend along just to give us that bit more backing then who knows what might happen”.
