ILLUME Arts Project in Skelmersdale

0

Glassball need your help with creating a temporary public artwork in Skelmersdale as part of their ILLUME project in the town. If you can spare a few minutes or more please come along to help create a unique artwork responding to slides of the same place just after its construction in the 1960s.

The site will be along Pimbo Road, just down the steps at the first lay-by with the butty van. Glassball are going to be creating an ‘alternative future’ for a section of paved area. Glassball want to reference the past slide images of when the area was first built, not restoring but showing an area that can be in the present. Thought of and treated differently, the ‘cleaning’ will reveal a section of the space as a positive interruption within the town.

No experience necessary, just your enthusiasm and a bit of your time is all that you will need. The clean-up will be mostly about weeding and removing any rubbish. Refreshments will be on offer and all tools and equipment will be provided. Glassball will be working on site from 10am – 3pm on the 23rd August and from 10:30 – 2pm on the 24th August, all contributions are welcome.

Following the clean up on the Saturday from 2-4pm, Glassball will be installing their touring public artwork, which will show nearly 400 unseen original medium format slides of the town. An ADF broadcast will also take place in the nearby subways. There will also be a chance for you to collect your free artwork which consists of original archive material from the town.
