West Lancashire Borough Council are delighted to hear that our nominations to the Queen’s Birthday Honours were a success and two local community leaders have been named in the Honours list.
Stella Connell has been given a British Empire Medal for her outstanding work with homeless and vulnerable people in West Lancashire as Chief Executive of the Birchwood Centre.
Margaret Highton has been awarded a British Empire Medal for her voluntary work with organisations tackling issues such as hunger, financial inclusion, road safety and housing. This includes her role as director of Evermoor Community Hub in Skelmersdale.
They have both worked tirelessly for their communities for many years and continue to be extremely busy supporting local people during the coronavirus pandemic.
Councillor Ian Moran, Leader of West Lancashire Borough Council, said: “The Council has worked closely with Stella and Margaret for many years and their work has been vital during the ongoing pandemic. We felt really passionate about their great work so we put in our nominations and are absolutely delighted to hear they have been given these well-deserved honours. Congratulations to them both.”
