  • Events across two days will mark the Jubilee
  • Children’s entertainment, parades, music and lighting of the Beacon just a few of the highlights
  • Celebrations are a chance for communities to come together and have fun

Three fantastic events will celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee this late spring Bank Holiday – and everyone is invited to join the fun!

The festivities start at Coronation Park in Ormskirk on Thursday 2 June where from midday to 4pm, children can enjoy donkey rides, a funfair and fabulous street entertainers the Acro Chaps.

The Skelmersdale Prize Band will be there to provide some rousing musical interludes and local dance troupes will get crowds up on their feet.

Local school pupils who have been busy designing a new crown for the Queen will be taking part in a joyful parade, with prizes for the best designs on the day. There will also be various stalls to browse through and great food and drink for everyone to enjoy.

Later that day, the celebrations move to Beacon Country Park as we will join communities across the UK lighting beacons for the Jubilee. You can join our procession from 8.45pm up to the Beacon where a bagpiper will serenade those gathered with the Beacon being lit at 9.09pm.

On Friday 3 June, the fun continues when we join the Friends of Tawd Valley to host a community festival at Tawd Valley Park.

Between midday and 4pm, a wonderful array of talented music and dance groups will perform in the Park’s Amphitheatre (which you can get to from Yewdale). Children’s entertainers will make the day even more exciting along with many other stalls and displays for visitors to enjoy.

Simon Kirby, Head of West Lancashire Borough Council’s Wellbeing and Place Services, said: “I’m really looking forward to celebrating the Queen’s Jubilee and I hope you will all come and enjoy the fantastic activities we have planned.

“The extra spring bank holiday is a lovely bonus and will allow us to gather as a community with friends and family, relax and have some fun while celebrating the incredible service the Queen has given to us throughout her reign.”
