Return of former boss Paul McNally

Skelmersdale United return to the Burscough Community Stadium this coming Saturday (7th Jan), when they will take on Paul McNally’s City of Liverpool side.

McNally guided United to promotion and a 1st Round FA Cup appearance in his 4 years in charge, his side sit one place and one point above Skem in the NPL West Division, United do have a game in hand and the result will be vital for both sides as they look to pull clear of the relegation places.

United fought hard in last week’s encounter at Prescot Cables and would have come away with all 3 points if had not been for the heroics of home keeper Mitch Allen, who on the day kept Skem from securing the much needed points.

Richard Brodie was full of his praise for his team efforts “Although you don’t like to lose, I cannot fault the lads endeavour and commitment at Cables, we certainly should have got something from the game. We look forward to the game on Saturday and will look forward to coming up against Macca, he had faith in me and brought me here to the club in 2019 and I will always be grateful for that, but friendships will go out the window come 3 o’clock, we will both be trying to win the game, no doubt it will be different come the final whistle”.

After McNally’s departure a number of United players also followed the former boss and we look forward to welcoming back Kenny Strickland, Danny Mitchley amongst others.

It is expected to be a fiercely fought contest, the game kicks off at 3pm and the supporters have a chance to pocket some much needed New Year cash in the Skem Lotto, with this week’s jackpot set at £500, see Mal by the turnstiles for your chance to win big bucks.
