Young volunteers wanted for Summer Reading Challenge

0

Are you aged 13 or over, love books and have time to inspire younger children?

If so, then St Helens Libraries wants to hear from you.

Every year, as part of the national Summer Reading Challenge organised by The Reading Agency, children are given the task to read six books over the summer holidays.

A total of 2,812 children in St Helens took part in the challenge last summer – with 1,966 successfully completing the challenge – however, with this year’s theme being ‘Record Breakers,’ it is hoped that with your help, last year’s will be smashed.

By volunteering over the summer you will be involved in a variety of events in libraries ranging from designing craft activities, creating displays for the library walls, as well as the day-to-day work of helping the children to find books. You can also be involved in the celebration events that take place in October with medal ceremonies.

All this will give you the opportunity to help the community, while gaining great skills and experience for your personal statement or CV.

For more details on becoming a volunteer, please visit your nearest St Helens Library and speak to a member of staff.
