Building work will begin shortly on 11 new industrial units which are being created by West Lancashire Borough Council to meet the needs of modern businesses.
The Council regularly receives enquiries from businesses looking for smaller factory units suitable for light industry and manufacturing purposes. The authority hopes this new development, called Greenshoots and located at Gorsey Place, Skelmersdale, will help meet that demand and create new jobs and provide new services in West Lancashire.
Housing and Regeneration specialist Keepmoat is building the units on behalf of the Council and the Council is also working with management consultants NPS on the project. The new units should be available to rent by the summer of 2016.

The 11 new units range from approximately 1,250 sq ft to 2,500 sq ft and will have HGV access. Gorsey Place is in Gillibrands which has excellent links with the motorway network.

Councillor Ian Moran, Leader of West Lancashire Borough Council and portfolio holder for Economic Regeneration, said: “This project will boost the local economy by helping local businesses and attracting new ones to the borough, all of which will help create jobs in West Lancashire. There haven’t been many developments in this area to build modern industrial units of this size for rent and we are doing this to meet the demand and demonstrate our confidence in Skelmersdale as a place to do business.
“If this scheme proves as successful as we expect then we will look at doing more projects to create new and improved business premises.
Keepmoat plans to work with the Council, West Lancashire College and local training agencies to provide traineeships and work experience placements for local people.

The development is expected to cost £1.7m, this being financed by a combination of Council resources set aside for such purposes and prudentially borrowing the remainder.
