An appeal for witnesses has been made by detectives after a man was stabbed at a family function on Sunday 7th June. Police officers received a call to Our Lady of Sorrows function rooms on Pirrie Road, Walton, at around 2pm, following reports of a man having been stabbed.

It is believed that during the family gathering, a man has walked into the function and has stabbed one of the guests before running off on to Stopgate Lane.

The 35 year old victim from Crosby, received a stab wound under his left armpit and he was taken to hospital where his condition was described as being critical but stable.

The offender has been described as being a white male, believed to be in his 30s, with dark skin and facial stubble. He was wearing a dark blue anorak type coat.

Detective Inspector Ian Warlow said ‘I would urge anyone who may be able to help us with our inquiries to come forward. The investigation is in its early stages and we are working to establish a motive for the attack. This was an audacious and calculated assault carried out during a family celebration, which resulted in a 35-year-old man suffering a serious injury.

‘Thankfully attacks such as this are rare, but we cannot underestimate the impact this will have had on those who were attending the function this afternoon. We are determined to find the man responsible for this vicious attack and put him before the courts.’

Crime Scene Investigators are currently carrying out forensic examinations at the scene and house-to-house inquiries are being carried out alongside visits to local shops in the area.

Anybody who has got any information which may help the police with their inquiries has been asked to contact detectives at St Anne Street police station on 0151 777 4065, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
