Wirral puts focus on teenagers for Foster Care Fortnight

0

Every 20 minutes across the UK, a child comes into care in need of a foster family.

To mark national Foster Care Fortnight, which starts on Monday next week, Wirral Council is launching a campaign focusing on finding foster families for teenagers, who are often more difficult to place.

Said Cllr Tony Smith, Wirral’s Cabinet Member for Children and Families: ‘During the two weeks of Foster Care Fortnight, it is estimated 13 new children could come into Wirral’s fostering service, needing a foster family, so it’s essential we keep up the momentum to attract new families.’

Foster families, children and young people will be promoting the campaign by posting their most significant 20 minutes of the past year, and by backing the campaign on Facebook. You can too, by following details here.

Wirral’s fostering ambassadors will also be out and about at a series of roadshows including:

  • Saturday 14 May, 10-2:30pm, Co-Op Bebington
  • Tuesday 17-Thursday 19 May, 9-11am, Bromborough Civic Centre
  • Friday 20-Saturday 21 May, 10-2pm Cherry tree Centre, Liscard
  • Saturday 21 May, 10-2pm, Co-Op Wallasey Village
  • Friday 27 May – 10-2pm, Co-Op Wallasey Village
  • Friday 27-Saturday 28 May – 10-2pm, Pyramids, Birkenhead.

You can also support Foster Care Fortnight by sharing a video of local foster carers talking about fostering here, and our video about foster carers being welcome from all walks of life here.

  • Last year, 337 children were referred to the service
  • Last year, 28 children were not placed
  • 267 children were placed; of those, 121 children were aged 11 + years.
