Wigan International Jazz Festival to go out into the community

Wigan International Jazz Festival will once again be going out into the community with free events for everyone to enjoy. On Saturday 12th July there will be two town centre concerts sponsored by Wigan Rotary Club. Shoppers will be getting entertained by Wigan Schools Swing Band at 11am; this will be followed by Wigan Youth Band from 12 noon.

Sunday 13th July is when visitors to Mesnes Park will be set for a treat when Echo 42 Big Band will be putting on a show in the park at 1pm.

The Festival Director, Ian Darrington, said ‘We want as many people as possible to benefit from this year’s jazz festival so we’re taking the music to the streets and the great outdoors so everyone can be involved. For those who want to come to some of the concerts at Robin Park, there’s still time to book your tickets but make sure you do it soon to avoid disappointment!’

The Wigan International Jazz Festival, which is being sponsored by Manchester Airport, will be taking place from Thursday 10th July to Sunday 13th July. Some of the highlights of the festival will include Jools Holland, who will be performing with his Rhythm and Blues Orchestra, featuring original Squeeze band member and drummer Gilson Lavis, special guest stars Mel C and Marc Almond, and guest vocalists Ruby Turner and Louise Marshall; great American trumpet player Jon Faddis and Clare Teal with Her Hollywood Orchestra performing classics to celebrate Doris Day’s 90th birthday.

Anyone who would like to book tickets should visit WLCT box office call 01942 828 271 or book in person at Robin Park Indoor Sports Centre or Haigh Country Park. Please note that Rover Tickets cannot be bought online or at Robin Park Indoor Sports Centre.
