That’s the question being asked by Knowsley Council as part of their commitment to seek the views of local people as they shape plans for the future of Kirkby town centre.

Having acquired St Modwen’s assets towards the end of 2019, the Council has now started work on a new retail development in the town centre after years of failure by the private sector to deliver on a series of promises.

Work has started on phase one of the new retail development, which includes a 45,000 sq ft Morrisons supermarket, a six-pump petrol station, a new store for Home Bargains, a drive-through KFC restaurant, and car parking. The development will also include another eight smaller shop units which are available to rent.

Work is also under way to progress plans for a cinema scheme in Kirkby town centre, which will be accompanied by food and drink outlets.

The public consultation exercise will take place in Unit 17, St Chad’s Parade (opposite Costa Coffee) and will run from Thursday, 5 March 2020 through to Saturday, 7 March 2020. You can call in to the drop-in event during the following times:-

Thursday, 5 March 2020                          8.00am until 2.00pm

Friday, 6 March 2020                              12.00 noon until 6.00pm

Saturday, 7 March 2020                          9.00am until 12.00 noon

In addition, you can share your views online by visiting www.knowsley.gov.uk (and search for consultations). The online consultation will open at 8.00am on Thursday, 5 March 2020 and close at 5.00pm on Friday, 13 March 2020.

Councillor Graham Morgan, Leader of Knowsley Council, said “We have always said that we would seek the views of the local community on what they wanted to see in Kirkby. Now that we have taken over ownership of the town centre and kicked off the construction of the retail development, we are asking for views on what people think makes a good town centre.”
