If you have ever wanted to discover more about the work which goes into looking after the urban parks of West Lancashire, then you might be interested in two upcoming free events. West Lancashire Borough Council Rangers are hosting two free events, called ‘Green Fingers Planting’, where you will be able to harvest some tips for your garden. You will also have the chance to plant some beautiful blooms which will bring a vibrant burst of colour to the park, whilst also helping to attract a range of nectar loving wildlife.
The first of these events will be taking place at Stanley Coronation Park, Skelmersdale, on Saturday 7th March. If you are interested in participating you will need to meet at the park’s bowling pavilion at 1pm.
The second activity will be taking place at Richmond Park, Burscough, on Sunday 8th March and this starts at 1pm from the park’s bowling pavilion.
Children who are under 12 will need adult supervision, (from someone aged 18 or over) throughout these events. Sturdy footwear will be required and people who are attending these events should remember to dress appropriately for the task and the weather conditions.
The rangers are also looking for assistance with hedgelaying; this is taking place on Saturday 14th March. Hedgelaying is a traditional form of creating boundaries, which brings many benefits for wildlife as it is a sustainable form of management which produces habitat corridors. Anyone who is interested in participating in this free activity can meet the rangers at the Ranger Hut at 10am. Children who are under 16 will need adult supervision (from someone aged 18 or over) throughout the events.
Further details of these events can be obtained by calling 01695 570258 or 01695 622794.
The portfolio holder for Leisure, Councillor David Sudworth, said ‘These are ideal events for people to enjoy and learn new skills while enjoying the great outdoors in springtime. So come along and take part – there’ll be something for everyone.’
