West Lancashire Borough Council issues warning to residents about having work done on trees

0

West Lancashire Borough Council has issued a warning to residents to be wary of firms who offer to prune their trees, as the forms may not be qualified or insured for the job. There have been concerns raised by the Borough Council as there may be many people with gardens looking for someone to prune their trees during spring and summer.

John Harrison, Assistant Director Planning and Development, said ‘It is important that contractors carrying out works to trees are properly qualified and insured to do the work and use the correct protective equipment. People should be very wary of using companies or individuals that do not fit into those criteria. Residents should also be on their guard against companies that may try to coax them into having work done that may not be needed.’

The Council have also advised people that they would need to apply to the authority for permission to carry out pruning works on a tree that is subject to a tree preservation order. Anyone who is living in a conservation area would be required to notify council officers before they carry out any pruning works.

Further information on looking after trees on your property can be found by visiting trees, hedges and woodlands, where you will also be able to find a list of the Council’s approved arboricultural contractors.
