Warning issued by police after bank cards are stolen at cashpoints

0

The public are being asked by the police to be vigilant when they are withdrawing money from ATM machines after two have recently been targeted by thieves. The latest incident took place on the morning of Tuesday 27th January at a post office on Norbreck Road, Thornton Cleveleys. A woman has tried to withdraw money and her card has then been retained for no apparent reason by the machine.

In a separate incident which was reported to police on Wednesday 21st January, a local woman has attempted to use a cashpoint at the Costcutters Post Office on Devonshire Road. The woman has attempted to withdraw money but her card was also swallowed by the machine. The woman has then reported this incident to her bank, who have advised the woman that her card had been used to withdraw £750 from other ATMs in Blackpool.

PC Carol White said ‘We believe that a skimming device has been attached to both of these machines leaving both cashpoint users unaware that they were actually having their cards and their card details, including their pin, stolen. It’s important to remind people that we have only had the two incidents reported to us, however, we are asking the public to be alert and report anything they notice out of the ordinary at cashpoints.

‘If you think that you have been a victim of something similar in that your card has been retained by a cash machine for no apparent reason, please contact us or Action Fraud as soon as possible. You should also report this to your card issuer, such as your bank or credit card company, at your earliest opportunity.’

Anybody who has got any information about the above incidents can bet in touch with police on 101.
