Visitors to Chorley can enjoy Astley Hall’s intriguing history, warm Christmas decorations and the British Wildlife Photography Awards exhibition until New Year’s Eve when the hall closes at 4pm for a well-deserved recovery break.

The beautiful historic house is open every weekend in December until Sunday 31 December and each weekend visitors will have the opportunity to see the national British Wildlife Photography Awards exhibition whilst admiring the halls history and decor.

Councillor Peter Wilson, Deputy Leader of Chorley Council said: “Astley Hall is the jewel to Chorley’s crown and we encourage visitors to our area to see what it has to offer, including its marvellous history and any events that are happening.

“We currently have the British Wildlife Photography Awards exhibition in the halls Art Gallery and we recommend that people pay a visit to the prestigious national exhibition before it travels to its new location in the New Year.

“So far, we have had many people visit and enjoy the exhibition so we hope many more people will come throughout December.”

“The hall has a break in the New Year and closes until spring to allow the building to have rest and prepare for the busy season.

“Astley Hall is a historic Grade 1 listed building and holds a lot of importance in Chorley so we always do our best to ensure it is maintained to its best standard so that members of the public can continue to enjoy their time there.”

The British Wildlife Photography Awards is an exhibition that tours the UK showcasing photographs of wildlife taken from entrants across the country.

Astley Hall is the only location in the North West to host this exhibition so it is recommended that anyone interested in photography and wildlife visits before the national exhibition travels to its next destination in the New Year.

There will also be additional activities on for children including face painting and arts and crafts which makes the exhibition a perfect day out for the family.

Santa will also be taking up residence in Astley Hall on the weekends in December and although tickets to see him have sold out, you can still ride the Santa Express train for £3 on Saturdays and Sundays.

Astley Hall will be open every weekend from 10am-4.30pm except for the last weekend in December when it will be open 12pm-4pm.

The exhibition is open every weekend until Sunday 31 December, corresponding with the opening times of Astley Hall. Entry is £2.50 for adults and £1 for children, children under 6 get in for free.

Following the New Year, Astley Hall will be closed until spring when visitors will be able to visit the hall as normal every weekend.
