Skelmersdale United 4-1 AFC Liverpool

Skelmersdale United moved up to second spot in the North West Counties League with an emphatic 4-1 win over AFC Liverpool. Two goals from Emini Adegbenro, one from young hotshot Elliott Morris and a rare goal for Central defender Joe Herbert secured the win.

With Howard & Morris running the AFC defence ragged it came as no surprise when United took the lead with just 10 minutes on the clock, as a great through ball from Tom Croughan found Morris in the box who poked home. AFC were not without their chances with the two Schorah brothers both going close and it was Callum who drew the sides level on 24 minutes.

The reply from Skem was quick and decisive, Morris with blistering pace opened up the defence and there was United’s talisman Mini Adegbenro to put United back in front.

United had chances to extend the lead with Croughan, Howard & Morris all going close.

United continued to put the visitors under immense pressure in the second period, forcing a mix up in the AFC defence and Adegbenro was on hand to capitalise for 3-1. United made changes Kev Towey returned to the United side after a 10 year absence and youngster Eddie Servuts made his NWCounties debut.

The game was well and truly wrapped up on 70 minutes a lofted ball to the far post by Ellis found Herbert who headed back across goal to make it 4 for United. The visitors had a claim for a penalty waved away Kyle Schorah went close as did Hajdari but it was a comfortable night for Paul McNally’s men. United take a break from League action this weekend as they travel to deepest darkest Yorkshire to face Rossington Main in the FA Vase.
