The Liverpool City Region’s Transgender Day of Visibility (TDoV) celebrations will still go ahead on Tuesday 31 March, as its organisers broadcast the event via Facebook and other social media channels.
A full programme of speakers, performances and activities had been due to take place at the Museum of Liverpool, before a nationwide lockdown was enforced last week to prevent the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19).
Determined to ensure that the Liverpool City Region could still celebrate the lives of transgender people and raise awareness of the discrimination they face, activist Imogen Christie will now host the event virtually, with the support of the LCR Pride Foundation via their social media channels.
Speakers and performers have filmed their spots from home and each one will be shared from LCR Pride Foundation’s Facebook page and shared on Twitter and Instagram (both @LCRPride), in collaboration with several organisations.
Speakers confirmed so far include Liverpool TDoV, Mermaids, LCR Pride Foundation and Merseyside Police, along with online screenings of some excellent independent films, to be confirmed early next week.
Imogen Christie said: “It is more important than ever that we educate, inspire and celebrate the lives of transgender people across the region and across the world, so finding a way to ensure that our programme of events could continue despite the lockdown was essential. We are looking forward to welcoming our virtual audience to the online event next week.”
