Thought-provoking Cultural Hubs performance in libraries ahead

The following article replaces the previously advertised article about two performances in St Helens, this is due to the cancellation of ‘Stammer’ as advertised in the previously advertised article.

St Helens Library Service is set to host a personal and thought-provoking set of performances by local drama practitioner Sophie Tickle, as part of St Helens Council’s Arts Council England funded Cultural Hubs – Arts in Libraries programme.

Sophie Tickle’s ‘Monday’ is a solo performance featuring dance and monologue that physically explores a day in the life of one person taking everything life throws at her as a gift; juggling everyday tasks; considering where she has come from and where she is going to and trying to find the balance between adhering to the ‘ideal’ and trying to get everything she wants to out of life.

Sophie produced her expressive performance ‘Monday’ after working with the council’s library-based Adult Learning Department. The department funded a project with Liverpool theatre company Hope St Limited, to develop the skills of local drama practitioners, setting up a new wave of performers.

Councillor Jeanie Bell, St Helens Council’s Cabinet Member for Public Health and Wellbeing, said: “Monday is set to be a cerebral but genuine performance. It’s another way in which we’re using library spaces in creative ways – as places for expression – opening them up to local people to share their ideas and creativity.

“Sophie has produced and developed her piece over many months, aiming to tell her very relatable story, which has the potential to provoke much thought and discussion. Monday will be a truly moving performance, so don’t miss out!”

Performances of Monday take place at 10.15am (Chester Lane Library), 12.30pm (Newton-le-Willows Library), 2.30pm (Central Library), and 5.00pm (Thatto Heath Library) on Saturday 17 October.

All performances are free and suitable for all ages. No tickets required, just turn up.
