Have you ever wondered about the history of the Thatto Heath area? How it got its strange name and where it originated from?

Then join Senior Library Assistant, Marie Roylance at Central Library on Tuesday 21 June at 1:30pm for an exciting talk where the answers to your questions will be revealed.

Take the opportunity to see the Thatto Heath Ordnance Survey map of 1845, as Marie discusses some little known facts about the area, such as it having its own brewery, was ‘Sot’s Hole’ an actual hole? How did Elephant Lane get its name? Who were the Donkey Commoners? As well as the fascinating origins of local places, including Top Sawney, Knobstick Hall, Jockeys Houses, Sots Hole, Spout field and Pigmans Row, to name a few.

The free event is part of a year-long programme of Heritage events taking place in St Helens Central Library.

Places can be booked by calling Central Library on 01744 676989 or by emailing amandabrown@sthelens.gov.uk
