Thanks to the kindness of local residents and businesses, our Children’s Department at Ormskirk hospital was inundated last month with donations of toys, chocolates and even two computer consoles.

Locally represented businesses Co-Op, Iceland, Asda and Morrison’s all donated toys and chocolates. Co-Op’s donation was supported by customers and staff, who had bought over 400 selection boxes. These were given to patients staying on the children’s ward and those visiting A&E over the holidays.

Southport Football Club brought two much needed Nintendo Switch consoles and games for older patients. Three players popped in to make the donation and chat to young football fans in the unit.

Local schools also popped by, with pupils from Rainford High School bringing an amazing collection of toys for those children who could not make it home on Christmas Day. Extra toys have been used to replenish the play rooms.

Westhead Primary School kids dropped by to sing fantastic seasonal songs to staff, patients and visitors, making the festive season extra special for everyone at Ormskirk hospital.

Chief executive Trish Armstrong-Child comments: “This was my first Christmas at the Trust and I was delighted to see so much support from our community. We had carol singing and piano playing, Santa and elves popped by, Christmas jumper and sock days, brass band visits, remembrance services… All of this helped to lift spirits for both patients and staff, at what can be a difficult time of year for many people.

“I would like to add my sincere thanks to all our incredible staff working over the holiday period both at Ormskirk and Southport, often at the expense of their own family time. You are all amazing.”
