Labour candidate Sue Gregson has won the Birch Green by-election on Thursday.
The Labour team ran a positive campaign over the past six weeks, speaking to residents right across the ward about ongoing developments in Birch Green and Skelmersdale as a whole.
Labour held the seat with a clear majority taking over 60% of the vote in a three-horse race.
Speaking after her success, Cllr Sue Gregson said:
“I would just like to thank the residents of Birch Green who have spoken with me over the past six weeks.
“It is an honour to be elected to this position and represent the area in which I live. I look forward to getting on with the work I have promised, giving local residents a voice, improving local facilities and making Birch Green a place to be proud of.
“We have a lot to look forward to with the long overdue town centre and new sports centre which the Labour Council are now delivering, and I look forward to being part of the team helping to shape what these additions will look like and offer local residents to meet our needs.
Council Leader Cllr Ian Moran said:
“I’d like to welcome Cllr Gregson to West Lancashire Borough Council and look forward to working with her and Cllr Carl Coughlan to achieve the improvements they wish to see for Birch Green.
“Sue has shown herself to be professional, committed and engaging over the course of the by-election campaign, and I expect she will bring those qualities into her role as a councillor.”
