Stuff and Nonsense at Lancaster Castle

Lancaster Castle is the setting for a family-friendly show this month.

The show is being performed on Saturday 23 June, at 7.30pm. It is produced by Don’t Go into the Cellar! theatre company.

Stuff and Nonsense is a new adaptation of the life story of Edward Lear, told in an amusing way. Edward is now widely known as the writer of an original kind of nonsense verse and is credited with making the limerick popular.

His most famous poem is ‘The Owl and the Pussy-Cat’.

Edward is also an artist, illustrator and a musician, and the performance draws on his experiences, and his philosophy on life. It promises an evening of wit and fun.

County Councillor Peter Buckley, Lancashire County Council’s cabinet member for community and cultural services, said: “I’m delighted that we are staging such a wonderful comedy. It will be a great adaptation and an original take on one of the greats of nineteenth-century literature.

“I expect that this performance will be a real treat for Lear lovers and great entertainment for everyone. I’m sure that the audience will be drawn into this heart-warming and captivating life story by its imaginative re-telling. I expect that a certain owl and a particular pussycat will feature in it too!

“This will be a fantastic show that is perfect for people seeking good, old-fashioned theatre, set in the wonderful historic backdrop of Lancaster Castle.”

Tickets cost £8 for adults and £6.00 for concessions and children.
