Statement from the headteacher of Asmall Primary School in Ormskirk, following the fire at the school yesterday (Thursday 17 June):

Michelle Speak, headteacher of Asmall Primary School, said: “Thank you to the emergency services for their response. Investigations are continuing to determine the source of the fire.

“We contacted our parents last night to let them know about the incident and that school could be closed today (Friday). We’re currently assessing the damage to consider how we can get parts of school open again, once it’s safe to do so. We’ll contact parents to let them know more details once we have them.

“This is a difficult time and we’re working with our staff, students and the wider school community to support people. We have a strong school community and will get through this together.”
