St Helens Council aim to kick domestic violence into touch

0

St Helens Council is reiterating their goal of kicking domestic violence into touch, ahead of the Saints clash against the Catalan Dragons this evening.

Due to drinking and high emotions particularly in the event of a defeat, domestic violence sometimes increases during big sporting events.

It is estimated one in four women and one in six men will experience domestic abuse in their lifetime which can include threats, harassment, physical attacks, financial control and emotional abuse.

St Helens Council, along with Saints ace, Paul Wellens, is a supporter of the White Ribbon Campaign, set up by a group of males which encourages all residents to make a commitment never to commit, condone or remain silent about domestic violence.

Victims of domestic abuse can contact the Independent Domestic Violence Advocate on 01744 743200. There is also 24 hour support available on 01925 220541.

People who are violent or abusive to loved can contact RESPECT on 0808 802 4040 for help.
