United legend Kenny Strickland returns alongside four brand new signings.

Ahead of the opening game of the NW Counties season, when United face Longridge Town on Tuesday 3rd August @JMO Skelmersdale United are delighted to announce the official return of legend Kenny Strickland as he signs on for the new season alongside four new attacking signings from NPL based clubs.

Kenny re-joins the club from NPL side Marine for whom he excelled across four seasons after an initial spell back in 2010. He reached legendary status for United after 311 appearances between 2010-17 which placed him ninth on the club’s all-time list and he scored 31 goals.

The first of our four new signings highlighted inspiration from Kenny himself for his move as Mikey Howard joins from Marine too. He starred in the Mariners’ amazing FA Cup run with the winning penalty in the tie against EFL side Colchester United. He began his career in the Preston North End youth setup and has had spells with Cork City (IRL), Hednesford Town, Stalybridge Celtic & Morecambe.

Speaking with Mikey, he commented “I’m excited to get back to playing after a hit or miss season with the highlights being the games against Colchester and Tottenham. It’s great to link up with the lads and I’m looking forward to what will hopefully be a great season.”

The midfield duo of Elliot Morris and Abdul Djalo join the club on dual-registration from newly promoted NPL side Warrington Rylands 1906. Having played for Rylands earlier in pre-season they both trialled in our recent friendlies against Accrington Stanley U23s and Prescot Cables, both scoring for United against Cables on Tuesday evening.

Elliot commented “I’m buzzing to join the club on a dual registration with Rylands so I can boost my experience and help the lads out in a season where we hope to do well.”

Abdul commented ” I’m very excited to be here, alike Elliot on dual-registration with Rylands as it’s a great opportunity to show what I can do while helping the club accomplish its goals this season.”

Last but certainly not least is ‘Baba Conteh who also joins from an NPL side in Prescot Cables. He was a key player in Cables’ second Liverpool Senior Cup title and despite suffering a number of injuries appeared over 50 times, scoring five goals.

He expressed his joy on signing earlier today “I’m happy to be here (at United) and hopefully can help the lads towards the ambition of promotion this season and another great FA Cup run for the club.”

United manager Paul McNally commented ‘I’m delighted to welcome Kenny back to the club and excited to announce the four attacking new signings as they will be a great addition to our attacking prowess as we continue to build the squad ahead of new season.”
