Skelmersdale Police offer advice to residents about suspicious salesmen knocking at doors

0

Over the past week we have had a number of calls in relation to BT (British Telecoms) sales staff going door-to-door, and in some cases, entering resident’s addresses under the guise of checking their telephones. The majority of these calls have come from the Up Holland area.

After speaking with BT directly, they have confirmed that under no circumstances do they attend their customers addresses unannounced, instead, carrying out their correspondence over the phone. They also do not carry out door-to-door sales.

Can we advise all residents to be mindful of who they open their door to and allow into their home. And if a salesperson comes to your door and cannot provide identification, do not engage with them.

Your local neighbourhood policing team are aware of the situation and ask if you see anything suspicious, report it to us via 101 or on our website.

If you feel you have been the victim of a bogus door-to-door salesperson, or have purchased something from them that you are unhappy with, you can contact Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040.
