Reading Café
Date
Wednesday 18/05/2022
10:30 AM to 11:30 AM
Details
Make friends through reading. Shared reading groups are a new type of reading group. They are very relaxing as there is no reading required before coming to the group. Instead each group has someone who reads aloud to the group and encourages discussion. Chatting about what has been read over “a brew and a biscuit” is a big part of the group. All printed materials are provided at each meeting – no books to borrow or buy and no reading to a deadline!
All our Shared Reading Groups use the same approach – typically the group will read together a short story and a poem during the session. Chatting is a big part of the group – with the emphasis being on “what it means to me”, but there is no pressure to join in. Groups are ideal for those with visual impairments, dyslexia or other difficulties with reading or concentration but equally groups are also enjoyed by anyone who occasionally likes to take time over their reading and to discuss it with others.

We also have lots of Reading Groups meeting in our Libraries, where we regularly all read the same book and chat about our thoughts and feelings. A reading group is a great way of sharing the love of reading and inspiring you to try something different.
