Sign up and pay for the garden waste collection service for 2019/20

People living in West Lancashire who wish to use the Borough Council’s chargeable garden waste collection service from week beginning 3 June 2019 can sign up and pay online.

Residents who are currently signed up to the service can enjoy the benefits of garden waste collections until week ending Friday 31 May 2019. Residents must subscribe again if they wish to continue having their brown bins emptied from 3 June 2019 for the following 12 months. If they subscribe by 17 May 2019 they will be guaranteed no interruption to the service, which will continue as normal on a fortnightly basis.

The service remains at same cost of £30 per year for one brown bin to be emptied.  Householders will also be able to have additional brown bins emptied at a cost of £25 each per year.  Additional bins can also be purchased at a cost of £25 if needed.

If you have never subscribed to the Council’s chargeable garden waste service before, new customers are more than welcome to sign up for the first time and can purchase their brown bin online.

The quickest and most convenient way to sign up and pay is via the website www.westlancs.gov.uk/gardenwaste. You can even do it on your mobile phone if it can connect to the internet through the self-service customer portal.

Residents who do sign up must put their house number in the white square on the front of their brown bin to make sure it can be identified by collection staff and a valid subscription confirmed to minimise the risk of any missed bins.  Where bins are not clearly numbered and a valid subscription can’t be confirmed a warning label will be attached to the bin.

Those who decide not to sign up and pay will be able to dispose of garden waste at household waste recycling centres, or compost it.

Councillor Kevin Wilkie, Portfolio Holder of Street Scene Services, said: “Residents who sign up and pay, can enjoy the benefits of using the service on a fortnightly basis, can help minimise the amount of waste going to landfill and contribute towards protecting the environment.”

Residents that are having difficulty paying by credit or debit card may wish to ask a family member to assist them or can talk to Customer Services to seek further advice and assistance on how to make a payment.
