Defender joins from Widnes

Skelmersdale United are delighted to announce the signing of defender Shaun Holden, a quick, skilful and hard-working player with immense stamina and possesses a wand of a left foot and is one of the best crossers of the ball in the North West.

Paul McNally was delighted with the news “we have had an eye on Shaun for a while and the player has been keen to join us”.

Shaun goes into United’s squad for Saturday’s away fixture at Prestwich Heys.

Shaun is no stranger to United supporters having joined the club in March 2013 from Southport, going on to play 130 games for “The Blues”. Shaun was part of the United side that won the NPL (North) title in 2013, along with the Peter Swailes Trophy the same season.

Shaun’s list of honours with the club also include a winners medal in the 2015 Liverpool Senior Cup. His final game for United was in the Boxing day thriller at Marine in 2016, a game that ended 3-3.

In his time at the club Shaun also scored 5 goals, including a 96th minute FA Cup equalizer at Glossop, a goal in the 5-2 FA Trophy demolition of Chorley and two goals in the final game of the 2013-14 season at Stocksbridge.

Shaun has also played for Burscough, Droylsden and Colwyn Bay.
