Think about sexual health ahead of Valentine’s Day

0

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and this year, St Helens Council are asking people of all ages to think about their sexual health and, if needed, to take advantage of the excellent support and advice that is now available in the borough.

Not only is there a new modern Sexual Health Service for people of all ages, operating drop-in clinics six days a week, but there are also services that are specially designed for young people up to the age of 19. Details of how to access this support can be found at

Good sexual health is important to everyone. That doesn’t just mean being free from sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and unintended pregnancies, but being able to form healthy relationships and make informed choices about if, when and with whom to have sexual activity, or start a family. It means ensuring that people are free from stigma and safe from sexual abuse or exploitation, whatever their age.

Director of Public Health, Liz Gaulton said, “People often shy away from asking questions or seeking support because they are embarrassed. This means that many people worry or suffer unnecessarily when modern services, staffed by experienced professionals could help. All services are completely confidential.

“Sexual health affects us physical, mentally and emotionally. It is an essential part of who we are as human beings and is central to some of the most important relationships in our lives. Don’t let embarrassment stop you from getting the support you need to stay healthy and strong”.
