A local family from Shevington has made a huge donation to Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust’s (WWL) Rainbow Ward for the seventh year, as a thank you for the care their sons received during stays on the children’s ward.
During the 2019 festive period, the Molyneux family managed to raise an incredible sum of £3,172 by producing a magnificent lights display at their home and bringing festive joy to the borough.
Once the grand total had been calculated, the family contacted staff on the ward to find out what was needed, then the Molyneux family duly obliged and went on a shopping spree with the ward’s wish list in hand.
Gill and Paul Molyneux came along to the ward to present the gifts, accompanied by their three sons, Ethan, Alfie and Theo.
Some of the items they generously purchased included a folding bed for parents to use, a TV, a fridge freezer, portable DVD players, computer games, books and lots of toys.
Paul said: “The boys have been patients on the ward a few times and this is just our way of giving something back”.
Gill continued: “Spending time in hospital can be a stressful time for the children and their parents and we hope that our donations can provide some comfort during their time on the ward.
“We would like to thank everyone who donated money and helped us to raise such a fantastic amount”.
Nicki Crowther, Hospital Play Specialist was thrilled with the donation. She said: “On behalf of WWL, I would like to give huge thanks to the Molyneux family for their thoughtfulness and outstanding generosity.
“The toys and equipment that they have provided us with will really benefit both patients and staff on Rainbow Ward.”
