Lancashire County Council’s lead member for schools has continued her programme of visiting schools by calling in at Burscough Priory Science College.

County Councillor Nikki Hennessy toured the school with the head, Dr Graham Clarke, and students. She said: “As lead member I’m getting round as many schools as I can, and it’s especially rewarding to visit schools in my home patch of West Lancashire.

“I continue to be impressed by the high quality of schools I’ve seen and Burscough Priory is no exception.”

Dr Clarke added: “Priory is one of the highest achieving high schools in the country and I’m proud to say student progress is consistently outstanding. Our 2014 exam results continue to rise rapidly: 77% of students gained at least 5A – C grades including English and Maths at GCSE, which means this year group has made the most progress in the school’s history across the whole curriculum.

“Equally importantly, our students all leave with other vital qualities they need for success in life, such as confidence, pride in themselves as individuals, self-belief and high aspirations, and being equipped to make good choices about their future.”
