The Greatest Showman came to Skelmersdale after school pupils performed songs from the hit Hollywood movie.

Children from Delph Side Community Primary School gave a special performance for residents at Aaron Crest Care Home, on Tanhouse Road, among other groups.

Their show included several of the movie’s awarding winning original songs, alongside signing and singing popular song “You Raise Me Up”.

The children, all aged seven to 11 years, also gave solo performances and had residents and other visitors singing along and dancing.

Liz Ormerod, headteacher at Delph Side Community Primary School, said: “I’m just so very proud of the students today.

“Words fail me as to how everyone was a part of the show they put on. There were so many happy people everywhere.”

Alongside the special performance in the school hall, visitors were treated to cakes and a selection of drinks.

Adrienne Ratcliffe, home manager at Aaron Crest Care Home, said: “When the children signed to the song “You Raise Me Up”, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.

“Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon of singing and dancing – even dancing with the students, the staff and the school governors.

“Resident Judith Cookson didn’t really want to go and was a little nervous but, once the singing started, she was up on her feet dancing and singing with the students and the staff.

“A massive thank you goes to the school and pupils for putting on such an amazing afternoon.”
