At Remembrance Sunday parades and services on 12 November West Lancashire will pay tribute to those brave people who have suffered or lost their lives serving their country.

West Lancashire Mayor, Councillor Neil Furey, who will be attending services in Ormskirk and Burscough, said: “Remembrance Sunday is an extremely important occasion when we come together to honour brave men and women who have died in the service of their country. West Lancashire is very proud of its links with the armed forces and large numbers attend parades every year. We will all gather with great pride to pay our respects to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.”

Ormskirk

The Mayor, Councillor Neil Furey, accompanied by West Lancashire Borough Council’s Chief Executive, Kim Webber, will attend the event. The parade assembles at St Anne’s RC Church at 9.30am for a short service which begins at 9.40am, and will include a minute’s silence, Last Post and Reveille. Then at 9.50am the parade will march to the War Memorial in Coronation Park for a service. There will be a minute’s silence, Last Post, laying of wreaths and Reveille. At 10.10am the parade will march to Ormskirk Parish Church for the main Service of Remembrance, which will start at 10.30am. A salute will be taken outside the Parish Church. Refreshments will be served in the New Church Hall.

Skelmersdale

The Deputy Mayor, Councillor Noel Delaney, accompanied by the Director of Housing & Inclusion, Jacqui Sinnott-Lacey, will join the parade which marches from Liverpool Road, Skelmersdale, at 10.35am, to the war memorial on Sandy Lane for a service and wreath laying ceremony at 11am, which will include a minute’s silence, Last Post and Reveille. Refreshments will be available after the service at the Winchester, Liverpool Road, Skelmersdale and also at the Wardens’ Club, Blaguegate Lane, Skelmersdale.

Burscough

The Mayor will attend the parade and service in Burscough. The parade assembles outside Legion headquarters, Lord Street, Burscough at 1.45pm and marches off at 2pm to the War Memorial in Junction Lane, where a wreath is laid and a service will take place. Refreshments will be provided at legion headquarters.

In addition, Parish Councils in Aughton, Lathom and Up Holland are arranging parades and ceremonies, and services will be held at many churches in the Borough.

Two Minutes silence: 11 November

Ormskirk: West Lancashire Borough Council has organised a service and two minute silence ceremony at 11am on Saturday 11 November at the War Memorial in Coronation Park, Ormskirk. The event takes will be attended by the Mayor, members of the local clergy, Councillors and senior officers of the Council. Members of the public are very welcome to come along to the service and ceremony and are invited to gather from 10.45am onwards.

Burscough: The Lathom and Burscough Branch of the Royal British Legion will also be hosting the Armistice Day Service at 10.30am on Saturday 11 November 2017 at HMS Ringtail Memorial, Pippin St, Burscough. The Deputy Mayor of West Lancashire Councillor Noel Delaney will attend. The Memorial Garden is adjacent to Booths Café where people can meet from 10.00am. Everyone is welcome. There will be service and a two minute silence, after which wreaths will be laid at the monument. The Last Post will be at 11am.
