A primary school has dressed up in bright, colourful rainbow colours to raise money for Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust’s Three Wishes Charity.

Canon Sharples C of E Primary School and Nursery in Whelley, Wigan raised money by wearing different colours of the rainbow for the Trust’s Rainbow Ward that looks after children.

The idea sprung to mind when Year 5 teacher, Rachael Ball, received a letter from WWL’s Three Wishes Charity to hold a Rainbow Festival.

Mrs Ball thought it would be a good idea for the different year groups to dress in a different colour of the rainbow.

Starting with the nursery dressing in the colour red, year one wearing yellow, year two wearing pink, year three dressed in green, year four wearing purple, year five wearing orange and year 6 wearing blue.

“It was amazing to see all the effort put in by our staff, pupils and their families,” said Rachael.

Each child donated £1 to dress in their specific colour.

Paediatric Sister on Rainbow Ward, Heather Dineley, visited Canon Sharples along with two other colleagues from Rainbow Ward.

Heather said; “It was so lovely too see everyone getting involved and raising money for our Rainbow Ward.

“All the children looked like they were having so much fun and looked amazing in all their different rainbow colours.”

Jennifer Woodcock, Head teacher at Canon Sharples has worked at the school for three and a half years.

“I wanted to raise the profile of the Teen Zone development at the hospital,” she said.

The pupils and teachers at Canon Sharples were also greeted by Three Wishes mascot, Albert the Bear.

Janet Pennington, Three Wishes Fundraising Manager said; “To see all the children dressing up in different colours of the rainbow for our charity was so nice and really engaging.

“We hope this encourages other schools to get involved to raise more funds for our Teen Zone.”
