Race Result: Canada

At 19:00 UK time the cars were lined up on the grid ready for the start of the Canadian GP, after several penalties had been applied to the 3 drivers at the back of the field (Verstappen, Vettel, Button).

As the lights went out, the Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton was initially slow to start, whic allowed Nico Rosberg and Kimi Raikkonen to close up into the first corner although the Brit maintained the lead and slowly began to pull away.

Jenson came into the pits almost immediately to be rid of the drive through penalty he had for engine changes. The whole field had a clean start with no retirements. Felipe Massa and Sebastian Vettel had it all to do from the back of the field.

Fernando was told to conserve fuel but responding by telling the team he doesn’t want as they look like amateurs although not long after both McLaren drivers were forced to retire.

Romain Grosjean gave a masterclass on how NOT to overtake a backmarker when he collided with Will Stevens after cutting cross the Manor driver along the back straight, after which he received a 5 second time penalty.

The Red Bull drivers had a miserable weekend with both drivers moving only backwards through the field where as the Toro Rosso drivers had a better weekend with Verstappen pulling of some good overtaking moves.

The Williams drivers were strong all race whilst the Ferrari of Kimi Raikkonen had a srange spin at the hairpin, Felipe Massa had to work his way through the field and got as far as 6th when the laps ran out, where as Valterri Bottas started in 4th and maintained his position getting past Kimi Raikkonen when the Frrari driver spun.

The Lotus drivers had a strong weekend with their best qualifying and best race result of the season. Pastor Maldonado finished only his second race of the season scoring his first points while Grosjean had an eventful race receiving a 5 second penalty meaning he had to finish the race at least 5 seconds ahead of the driver behind in order to keep the position.

Overall the race eventful with several incidents as well as some brave overtaking manouvers made by the drivers. The most costly incident in our opinion was the Grosjean – Stevens collision as even though the Manor driver at the back of the field he was still racing his teammate and a 5 second time penalty wasn’t enough.

This incident also raises the question again about the blue flags, should the blue flags be scrapped and the driver left to race and find their on way past?

What do you think on the blue flag debate?
