Preston singing sensation continues to B Positive

Preston’s Ronald Clarke has vowed to continue to spread the message about the importance of giving blood after millions of people watched his band being voted out of Britain’s Got Talent in the semi-finals on Tuesday 29 May.

But Ronald, who is part of B Positive, the official choir for the NHS Blood Donation and Transplant Service, said there may still be hope after Simon Cowell made the promise of ‘a wildcard’.

B positive reached one of the semi-final rounds of the competition giving their final performance on Tuesday 29 May. They also appeared on the BBC’s One Show on Friday 11 May where they performed the opening and closing music to the show.

Although disappointed to be leaving the competition, Ronald, who is a voluntary youth worker in the Grimshaw Community Centre and also works with young people and families as a Key Worker for Lancashire County Council, said he was glad he had the opportunity to spread the important message about giving blood.

He said: “We’re all disappointed not to be selected for the finals however, Simon Cowell said ‘I’ll promise you a wild card’, so we’ll have to wait and see what that means! Once you get through one round, you just want to keep going for as long as you can to see how far you get, but it’s been fantastic to be involved. It was also great to sing on the One Show.

“There aren’t many times you get the opportunity to sing to nine million people and to get across such an important message.

“The B Positive Choir also completed some interviews on Wednesday morning with BBC Breakfast News in London which, we’re told, should go out on Friday morning to coincide with a report detailing the lack of Black and Asian donors across the United Kingdom.

“The most important thing is that we will have encouraged more people across the country to give blood, which is absolutely crucial.

“I’ll continue to sing with B Positive and do all I can to support the NHS Blood and Transplant service in the future.

“Since our performance on the MOBO Awards last year, we’ve been told the NHS has received thousands of new registrations from people wanting to become blood donors. I’m extremely proud of helping to do that’

“We still need more people to give blood. Everyone who can should find out where their nearest clinic is and help to save lives.”

You can find out the location of your nearest blood donation centre by visiting www.blood.co.uk and entering your postcode.
